He could see it, and she knew that
Everyone thought she hated him
By all rights she should
Yet, she couldn't bring herself to feel ill towards him
And though she acted cold to him, and she acted angry when her friends mentioned him
It was all she could do not to cry
She wasn't angry, nor hardly even betrayed
All she felt, all that filled her heart at the mention of his hame, at the sight of his face in the crowd...
Was sadness
She just wanted to know why?
Why did he do this to her?
She just wanted to know how he felt
What did he feel when he looked at her?
Pity? Shame? Nothing?
Why wouldn't he even give a simple answer?
What had she done wrong?
She supposed she shouldn't have been so strong
She should have just shut up about it
But she always had hoped, that there was something more...
But there never was, and she ruined what could have been a normal friendship
She hated herself, if anyone
For being too hopeful, for being weak, for trusting him
She raised the knife and cried
One by one she punished herself
But this pain was nothing to that which burdened her heart
Slice....Slash
Not enough!
She screamed, tears mixing with red remorse
She needed more pain...more punishment
It wasn't good enough! She cried, raising the blade one more time
I wasn't good enough...
And in the end, not a single star filled the sky that night.
