that descends us into the cave.

Into an environment of dust and dirt,
down into the bowels of the earth.

Shored up with beams and timber braces,
is it enough, the question reflects on all their faces.

Duty bound to run the risks,
knowing the peril that always exists.

Every miner dreads the day when disaster will strike,
and the earth will tremble causing the strife.

Does anyone fully appreciate the risks they take,
hundreds of feet below the surface where it is safe?

Then your worst fears come true,
and you are traped there, too treacherous for a rescue.

Always pushing the production, is the mine really safe?
Families gather round, waiting to hear their loved one's fate.

Now they are trapped in what becomes their grave,
as no one can be saved.

Have we learned from these mining tragedies?
What can you tell us that will put our minds at ease? Good write, Will. Great rhyming scheme you carried in this.
The subject, excellent. My personal opinion....Mother Earth is telling us, "Get the heck out of me, stop digging my treasures." We need to use other resources. Such as the wind, water, plants....no more fossil fuels, no more digging in the Earth for stuff that we do not need, to survive.
My thoughts are with families of the loved ones who lost their lives for "our fuelish greed".
Peace and hugs,
Laura

A very touching write. In my oppionon, they have to support their families and they could never overpay them or the one that take the chance of being left behind.
Very touching write, my dear friend.
huggs, blessings,
emy
