Must be a twin...lol
And well if you have or had the right one to do what spike thought of, a twin bed isnt bad. Oh well....enjoy the USA....it isnt too bad...and actually not too hot for the time of year. Have fun.

awww man, I freaking love my bed, so I can relate to this. I have an old antique bed that has been in the family since the early 1900's. (yeah, it's got a new mattress, man) ;) Anywho it's one of those, that when I was a child I had to have a step stool to get up in it...the headboard almost touches the ceiling, fabulous bed. I think of all the times folks spent there, babies made, fights, kids being kids, sick days...ah the list goes on. Cool write my friend, thanks for sharing.
Peace and happy bed jumping,
Laura

Now my bed hasn't the history that Laura's does... but I love it just the same. It's a big 'ole mahogany four poster. It sits in the same place it was placed years ago when the delivery men brought it in the house - it's way too heavy for one or two people to move, see - plus, there'd be nowhere else to put anyway since it'd take an small army to move the armoire or the dresser from where they sit... they're even heavier then the bed, I think!. "Oversized" furniture - gotta love it. lol

I felt those last lines, ito. I could argue the last perhaps (love a big bed!)... but oh, I know the essence of that second to last line all too well.

Always a pleasure to read you -

Now Spike ... don't take this the wrong way ( cuz I ain't suggestin' you and I ought share sleeping localities ) but I think I'd make a fair slumber partner for near most people. I slept in a twin bed or a cot for so long, growing up... I sleep at the edge of a bed for the most part, regardless of size and rarely venture into areas beyond elbow stretching, once I fall asleep. I can also sleep just about anywhere... even standing... if I'm tired enough. Someone accustomed to the confines of a small area... tends to remain there ... even if more wide open space is available. Still... reaching out to feel someone who isn't there... yeah I could see that.

Dearest world traveler,

Wow spike! The last line in the second stanza spoke right to me. How delightful.
A master-bed sees so many things in its lifetime as you've illustrated. Snuggling,
lazy Sundays, late night snacking, children curling up, and dreams ... oh, damn. SO
many dreams. It's wonderful to look back and remember the times shared inside
a big huge bed, (or cradle as your title suggests .. for doesn't it do just that for
us? Cradles our dreams, cradles us! *sigh* Not enough time is spent in bed)

Still .... when one is alone and the lights go out and the dreams start to drift
hazily in through memory's window ... yeah. Even a COT would feel to big
for one. Nice job my aussie friend. Well defined and beautifully written.
This has a character and emotion that is almost a comfort.

hope you are enjoying your time! :)

*hugs you*
be safe

~Breezy

Wonderful contrast between the warm images of the first part and the sadness in the final stanza.
Sure it gets lonely in that big ol' bed, but there's so much more room!

Take care,
Dom
