I am carried away
To days of my youth of smiles and happy times
Roaming and walking in the parks
And rolling down hills

Laughter and wonderment fills my head
Music and singing prayers and sorrow
Young love and heartbreak
and all that came with it

But I learnt who I am
As I grew older
But looking back I smile and shake my head
Did I was I really that way

The feelings seem so seldom now
I feel some how I may have lost my way
The laughter is few and the visit to the parks non existent
Memories of days ago with long gone friends saddens me

I can still see and hear their voices then and in the end.
My eyes fills with tears
And I wipe them clear
The years I have been given
were no more or less then was given to them

But who to share the joys with now
I turn to tell only empty space .
I feel perhap my usefulness is over
and now I must be content to sit back and wait

These are feelings that pass with time
as I preoccupy my mind
On the ususal things
But it's not where I wished I could be.

This is a very interesting poem. Your use of hindsight captivates me, but also saddens me in that you feel empty. You can look back on the "good times" and reminisce, but you can't forget that memories are made in the present and the past is already gone. As long as you have breath, you shouldn't forget to live.

Your words are sad but obvious feelings are spoken. I hope we can all shine throughout our years and live each minute as if it were our last. Wonderful reflective piece of work.
