I wish situations were different.
Distance between us let,
regrets collect the debt
of half of everything I owned,
which was my half of her.
Her half of me, left all alone.
Family left me broken in half, with half a home.
My other half denied,
My half sister.
I wonder if she remembers me.
I tried so hard to resist her memory,
but I’m reminded every time I look into my own eyes.
And when I lie in bed,
I’m riddled with the whispers
from a distance in the middle of my mind,
of this little girl I had once known.

And slowly the other half of me dies.
I wonder if she can hear her brother’s cries,
under the half moon of midnight’s lonesome skies.
I could’ve never known how much I ‘d miss her,
when I kissed her on her head,
and said goodbye.
For over half my life
I’ve carried this tear in my eye.
If only I could have half the laughter,
After years of tears shed.
Reminisce instead,
of when we both were young.
Our hearts sung to the rest of our lives.
Now my heart blisters, burning to the bone.
Cold seasons turning, yearning stronger
to hold that little girl of my childhood
in my memory a little longer.

Now she’s a woman.
No longer a little girl, so long
to the child of so long ago.
We’ve come a long way,
but we still have longer to go.
I’m still half a man
and my heart still belongs
to the song of our soul.
And I’m still longing,
For my half sister to come back,
So we can be whole.

Little sister,

This is a beautiful and poignant poem, I can feel the anguish at your separation.
The final stanza is lovely, but very sad.
I understand these emotions very well indeed.

Take care,
Dom

Mike, this actually teared me up. (Though, my emotions this morning are
most likely to blame, your words just sent me over the top!)

I am so sorry for this pain and hurt that you must continue to endure.
But WOW! What a piece you stole from inside your soul. (and
yeah, that author's note was brilliant .. it drew me here!)

You have evoked so much more than just a sadness with
this write. And given me so much to ponder as well.
Life is too short it seems. It's just too damn short!

Excellent post.

this really got to me, almost made me cry. I could feel your heart on this one indeed.

It is hard when family is split, I know first hand. Memories hold us by the heart strings but sometimes it would be so much better to reach out our arms and hold them near our heart.

Beautiful write...... I hope you can revamp this relationship at some point.

Michelle
