As I sat in a field of grass so tall
I stared at the perfection around me so
I could pray for the rain to make things grow
There wasn't a cloud in the sky

The light grew dull, and I felt so strange
It was all so ripe to make a change
It was all so beautiful, all so right
I felt like I should hate the light
Whichever way I wandered in the dark

I stood but couldn't walk, lied but couldn't talk
I tried to swap a pillow for a gun
The rain, it poured on a sunny day
I looked, but couldn't find my way
Because I was a traitor to the sun

The power of my memory I can't seem to revive
Because sterile thoughts are like a thousand knives
The more I fight, the more I consider
The bridge that leads to the other side of the river
Why can't I just leave my mind alone?

Don't know why I'm so nervous all the time
My life is stuck in this recurring crime
A look, a touch, a kiss is all it takes
The guilt is there but the hope is what it makes
The fear still rules the night

I stood but couldn't walk, lied but couldn't talk
I tried to swap a pillow for a gun
The rain, it poured on a sunny day
I looked, but couldn't find my way
Because I was a traitor to the sun

There's so much traffic on eternity's streets
I couldn't figure out where we should meet
The danger's clear down each and every road
But the threat of love can make me so sad
I'm soaking wet and still can't move a step

Don't cry, my sweet, I'm here a little while
The comfort love is there in the smile
The grass will grow if you just let it be
We'll survive the rain I made, the sun will set us free
And I'll sit here with you

I stood but couldn't walk, lied but couldn't talk
I tried to swap a pillow for a gun
The rain, it poured on a sunny day
I looked, but couldn't find my way

I think the words would make great lyrics for a song.
Certainly the repetition gives me that feeling about it.
"I Stood but couldn't walk"..........there's your chorus

Steve
