HOW CAN THIS BE
HOW CAN YOU WORK AT
A NURSING HOME WITH
EVERY THING YOU SEE

I CAME TO VISIT YOU AT WORK
AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE
I SAW A LOT OF OLD SAD FACES
WITH TEARS IN THEIR EYES

I ASK YOU WHAT WAS WRONG
WITH THESE OLD PEOPLE HERE
YOU SAID TO ME A LOT OF THESE
OLD PEOPLE HAVE NOT SEEN A
FAMILY MEMBER IN YEARS

I TALKED TO ONE LITTLE OLD LADY
ASK HOW LONG SHE HAS BEEN HERE
SHE TOLD ME ALMOST FIVE YEARS
AND SHE SAID SHE HAS NOT SEEN
HER SON SINCE THE DAY HE
BROUGHT HER THERE

I ASK MY MOM IF THIS WAS TRUE
SHE SAID YES IT WAS BUT WHAT
ARE YOU GOING TO DO

I TOLD MY DEAR MOTHER OH
THIS IS SO SAD HOW
CAN SOME ONE DO THIS TO
THEIR MOM AND DAD

MY HEART REALLY GOES OUT
FOR THESE LITTLE OLD PEOPLE
AND IF IT WERE POSSIBLE I
I WOULD BRING THEM ALL HOME
WITH ME

THIS IS WHAT MY MOM SAID TO ME

THESE LITTLE OLD PEOPLE HERE
ARE LIKE NEW BORN BABIES AGAIN
THEY JUST NEED SOME ONE TO SHOW
THEM SOME LOVE AND EVEN HOLD
THEIR HAND

I AM PROUD OF MY DEAR MOTHER
FOR THIS IS WHAT SHE DOES
SHE SETS THEIR WITH THESE
LITTLE OLD PEOPLE AND SHE HOLDS
THEIR LITTLE HANDS AND SHE SHOWS
THEM A LOT OF LOVE LIKE NO ONE
ELSE CAN

Oh! it is very sad to think about the little old people who were deprived of love from their sons and daughters.. You have given a true picture of their condition. May God bless your mother for her service to such people in need. venkat

Renee how horribly sad I've seen this happen in those places,I would never do that Thats why I'm living with my dad & taking care of him for the rest of his life like I did my mom!
I feel thats what they raised me to do!Christina

This is a good expression of feeling. I have worked with the elderly since I was a child and I have certainly seen how sad it can be for the desperately ill. But it does not have to be so. I have also seen much joy and peace in those who are the most ill.
If you get a chance, please check out my poem "fading moonlight." I would be interested to see what you think of it.
