the birds chirp yet there's none in sight,
I awake you with a soft kiss on the forehead,
a smile on my face you can easily read.

You know that I dare not tread far,
the heaven's full but you're my only star,
my warmth of the sun,
my rain when you're gone.

The dedication and the iron will comes with ease,
there's no hassle or effort in the air I breathe,
just a precious jewel I hold near where it counts,
you're my sunshine morning reannounced.

I hold you're hand - not letting go,
staring into your eyes, forever isn't just a show,
the windows to the soul tell stories and reveal:
you're true self and what you feel.

My hands glide through your hair
and into your eyes I stare,
you're afraid of how time changes things,
how things happen when the bell rings.

I hold you close and comfort,
soothing your pain and the hurt,
you try to deny how you truly feel,
I know you better and what's real.

I know you seek greener pastures
and painfully I must abide,
because I've known with all the gestures
that a different path you'll stride.

You've come as close as it gets
and become aware of your regrets,
I've known for far too long and held you too close,
I realised eventually trying too hard turns into a painful dose.

As in life - all good things come to an end,
and time didn't lie yet I tried to defend,
losing you left a scar for a long time unforgiven,
a raw dose of mixed feelings that it had given.

And now finally, I can almost look back and smile,
because I never hesitated to walk the extra mile,
things happen for reasons unknown
and eventually in life the reason will be shown.
