it separate our shores
cherry blossoms on mine
the crimson rose on yours

once there was a sturdy bridge
that held our lives together
neglected and forgotten
‘twas victim to the weather

the remnants of a passage
with rotten broken planks
no longer still connected
grasp to both our banks

no one bothered to rebuild it
to busy with our lives
the bridge was left in shambles
the remainder of my life

I never smelled your vines of roses
you never sat beneath my blossoms
simple memories we’ll never know
and others plain forgotten

both afraid to swim the river
we couldn’t take the leap
never learning that the river
‘twas only ankle deep [comments] => 1 [counter] => 175 [topic] => 16 [informant] => goodandevil [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 8 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FriendshipPoetry )

An absolutely beautiful poem, well constructed with impressive vocabulary and flow. The last one and a half stanzas are flawless, so elegant. Pretty much everyone has a story like this in their heads, well done for putting it down in words how it really is.
