By Kristena Rosselli

A young girl of only five,
Skin and bones, she was barely alive,
Her mother, you see, had passed long ago,
But there was no one around, how could they know.

Now this little girl lived in a shed,
Her mothers flesh rotting in the corner dead,
She had no idea what to do,
She trembled and shook, not knowing what to construe.

This shed was located in an old junk yard,
Life was obviously extremely hard,
No food to be found, not a ray of light,
No way to tell if it was day or night.

To get out of this shed was some kind of feat,
For the door was covered in solid concrete,
With no way out, and nothing to consume,
The girl slowly withered in this tiny room.

There was one ray of light in this little girl’s life,
She had a wooden dolly, carved with an old kitchen knife,
Its name was Sue, named after her mom,
But it too had withered and was almost gone.

She still loved that dolly though; it was all she had,
And having her dolly made her a little less sad,
So, this little girl was dying with no food at all,
She had some water, when it rained from the crack in the wall.

She weighed a nice ripe twenty-two and a third,
This weight for a five year old is completely absurd,
She hasn’t lived a very full life,
But at least soon she will end her strife.

She died on the night of December 24th,
Completely famished for all its worth,
One night before Christmas, and not a present in sight,
Not a gleam of happiness on this terrible night.

Although she had managed to crawl a little ways,
She wanted to die with her mother where she lays,
But she didn’t quite make it that far,
She died next to her dolly completely a mar.

A couple days later, the shed was found,
They uncovered the filth and knocked the concrete down,
Opened the shed, and the stench was unbearable,
And the sight in the shed was just terrible.

A decomposing mother, and a decomposing doll,
And a little girl in a pink dress, all tattered and mauled,
Had they come a couple days before,
She could have had Christmas and a new life to explore.
