As the sun rose up from behind the trees
I could feel HIS warmth upon me
The birds sang out to honor HIM
The sun shone brightly for HIM

I thank HIM for his forgiveness
each and every day,
but cannot stop the sadness I feel
For HE lost his son this day

Dressed within a scarlet robe
God's only begotten son
Was mocked and spit on repeatedly
then beaten by those he was among

Through the streets of Jerusalem
He bore the heavy cross
His followers looking horrified
but the mob showed no remorse

"Forgive them Father", Jesus prayed
"They know not what they do",
As the soldiers nailed him to the cross
His grace and love shined through

"Save yourself!", the scribes called out,
If you really are God's son".
Jesus remained upon the cross
His time here nearly done

He bore the pain of all man's sins
Upon this Easter Day
God's Perfect Son, he died for us
so that we could be saved.
