And if you decide I’m not worth your time and that girl down the street is, you’ll leave me to my pain. And I’ll be staring into the darkness and know I’ve lost everything for someone who would leave me for someone prettier.
And you’ll always want me back, but my eyes are far away. And you’ll never feel the same when I’m gone, but I’ll be gone and you’ll be left with that girl you don’t even know.
And you’ll watch me disappear down the isle and into some abyss. You’ll call for me, but I’m miles away; and you’ll never see me again.
And I’ll close my eyes to this place and move onto the next. I’ll just be some memory in your head like you’ll be in mine. You’ll toss and turn, trying to hold her, but she doesn’t feel the same…not like me. She looks straight through you and not at you. She doesn’t have my eyes. She snores….
She smells like smoke and beer, wasted time and fragile years. But I’m far from where you are, and you’re alone in this now.
You’ll leave me for something prettier and no forgiveness can be found in my heart. I’m cold as the night. You’ll be holding that cigarette between your teeth thinking about how I fought so hard to keep it away.
And you’ll hate me and try to forget, but my memory is still there.
That pretty thing you left me for will leave you for something better to. And you’ll always regret never holding on. I was worth every second, but you couldn’t see that.
Never could you ever see what I really was….
I was everything that you gave away.
