Array ( [sid] => 118207 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Inclusion [time] => 2006-04-12 13:28:56 [hometext] => I like being on this site because of the freedon i have to read and post poetry but it was not always that way. i think some ppl r having some problems i had when i came to the site in 2004 if u r this may help [bodytext] => I do not know for sure how talented i am
I think i just read lots of poems
I guess after you read a lot of them
some one will take you as their friend

But for a lot of people it is not the same
They do not want to put the work in
They have opinions and they just want to be heard
I hope I can be different

After you try to read every poet
You lose track of the ones you like alot
You go back to them and you realize
Their words hit you in the right spot

yes there is something I am trying to say
I hope that it gets through to you
The audience that you are writing for
should honestly be only you

It took a while for me to finally learn that
since then my poetry has changed
I write for myself and if someone reads it
they may find out that we''re the same

By no means am i saying that commenting on poetry will get others to read yours but it is a start. If i have talent it is because i read a lot of poetry and that is saying a lot. I've always thought that writing and reading go hand in hand. Honestly, if I had to choose between the two - I'd have a difficult time deciding. Reading is, I think, another way of experiencing the world... it is, frankly, where/how I find a great deal of inspiration. I think it's important for poets/writers to read. It's hard to explain... it's not that one must read other's to write well... but perhaps that one should read others to grow personally and artistically.

You made your point rather clearly, Archie - and I certainly agree (both in terms of YPDC and beyond these pages).

Take care-
~Snemmy

Well, for one, you are very talented.

This particular poem hit that soft spot in my heart. I loved it and I thank you for sharing your gift.

I agree-very well said! You should only write for yourself first- I love reading the poems and commenting when one speaks to me- or a freind asks for an opnion- this site is so full of talent it amazes me-I wish could read every single poem.
Peace and Light

Thanks for the great sentiment, Archie. I am very new to this site and am finding all sorts of things to read. I am going to read some of your earlier stuff so that I can see your growth. Good for you for putting in the work it takes to write a worthwhile poem. I had not ever thought that I was really writing only for myself. You have made me thoughtful and this is what a GOOD poem (like yours) can do. Many thanks and keep writing, Hautebush

Well put Archie,

I agree with all that you have said here.
Our art is just that our own but if our words transform into friendships along the way and writing partners to share with that is even better. Reading is part of learning and sharing others gifts and talents.
I'll always be a fan!

AhhhhhhhhhArchie, you've revealed the Mystery!
I've written poems all my life since I was seven. I'm now 69, and during all that time
very few of them were read! Poems are extensions of my heart, and if others want to read that part
of me and comment, then so be it!
But if not, it doesn't change my heart at all!
There in lies the Mystery. A true poet writes and writes and doesn't need any recognition!
I loved your poem Archie......it simply said it all!
Warm love
consue
