I am here waiting for you.
Do you ever think of me?
I am here waiting for you.
Can you set me free?

I somehow lost my home.
I’m not sure of folks I meet.
I found myself alone,
Lost and frightened in the street.

I tried to make some friends,
But was shooed and chased away.
Is this the way it ends,
Just another stray?

So much danger in the air!
My presence brings on fear!
Not welcome anywhere!
Not welcome anywhere!
People run when I get near!

Picked up by the dog cops
And forced into a foster home.
The food and care are really tops,
But I’m still so all alone.

I won’t take up too much space.
Just a small space in your heart.
A teeny, tiny, little space,
Where I can make a start.

No, I’m not a little puppy,
But I won’t pee upon your floor.
I just need someone to love me.
Please open up the door.

I am here waiting for you.
Where ever can you be?
I am here waiting for you.
Can you spare some love for me?

Well, this drew me in as I'm a huge animal advocate. I like that you wrote about shelter animals who have lost their home, as opposed to the 'puppy in the pet store window'. More people should consider adopting their pets from shelters/humane societys or rescues, then pet stores and money hungry breeders. Both my dog and cat are rescues, and I couldn't ask for two more wonderful pets. Good job portraying the importance of this.
Thank you for posting, and welcome to ypdc : )

ohhhh this is so sweet. Im a huge animal lover and worked in the animal field for quite awhile. If I had more room Id have a thousand of them! My kitty Avalanche was actually a ferral kitty he and all his brothers and sisters were captured nby the bad man dog catcher and all but him were euthanized, broke my heart! He got away and now is living with me grew up to be a fine big kitty boy! I have to stay away from shelters cause I can have nomore pets but this poem is exactly what I think they would say to us if they could speak our words. I wrote something similar to this.
Your heart is full!

Michelle
