Like a beautiful flower in full bloom
Several quick glances were exchanged
Along with a seductive smile, she shared
I started across the crowded expanse to meet her

Our eyes had captivated and then shyly looked away
An internal emotional explosion took place
I will never forget the expression on her face
A lifetime of hope can be born or die
All in the time it takes to blink an eye

One moment she was there
The next second she was gone
Did she ever really exist
Or was she a figment of my imagination
I felt certain there was an instant connection

Such a paradox a moment can be
When it can occupy your mind endlessly
There had been an immediate spark of love and desire
Nothing seems to extinguish this fire
How I wish I could recapture that fleeting moment

I keep revisiting that place
In hopes she would, her path retrace
But with the passage of time
A relevant function of the mind
To delineate between truth or fiction

A horrible thought just occurred to me
As inconceivable as it seems
That it was someone other then I , she had seen
Perhaps the truth is, my own ego is the reality
It's incredible how a moment can seem like an eternity [comments] => 7 [counter] => 218 [topic] => 22 [informant] => Willofree [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 20 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LostLove )

Well, this is a rather profound and thought-provoking write! there's an air of nostalgia and regret to your words. Many truths to what you've said here...
A moment is what you make of it, for better or for worse. I also like that you gave this piece an introspective touch. Well done.

Will~

This has me extremely pensive. I thought it was going
to be one of those, "lovers eyes meet across a room" poems,
but lo! A surprise was waiting for me. Wonderfully penned,
Will. I love the 5th stanza best!

wow, this is so unfair, why should fair minded people suffer for love's sake
I am mad you never got to meet.
Dont worry she'll come back someday, they always do, believe me.

You know.... I'm really rather certain that (sometimes... oh! just the exact right sometimes) you can live a lifetime in a moment. In an instant of present tense, it's possible, I think, to live long into the future. And... if the moment after that moment makes it clear that what you saw is not to be - it can be unbelievably hard to accept. *sigh*

You've got a number of us pondering this... each, probably, in our own way. And that, to me, is the mark of effective poetry. Well done.
