Array ( [sid] => 103027 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => RUNAWAY [time] => 2005-08-08 21:07:46 [hometext] => everything in this poem is actually true, its about someone i used to know, she was just 13 and she lived on the streets. [bodytext] => i just knew it,
i knew she'd disappear one day,
planning to forever spend her life like this,
a 13-year-old runaway.
lack of money is not something to feel blue,
she just took what she needed from the stores
and she'd make it through.
walking the streets with somebody elses sweater,
not wanting to go back because this life is better.
having sex with any guy for a place to stay,
never admitting that her days are grey,
i heard about her from people i know,
they described her as awesome and hardcore though.
i decided to meet her, i didnt think she'd be that bizarre,
but actually i thought she was bad news so i stayed very far.
going on doing the same things she would do,
making so many friends with people she hardly knew.
every once in a while her cousin would talk about what shes going through.
but i already know when nobody's around,
she cries and doesnt know what to do.
deep down shes cold and torn inside,
i know what shes all about,
because nobody this age is fit for this ride.
wanting to go home,
but instead shes left alone.
she can't do the things she would do,
after her parents knew.
they never look for her,
because shes too lost to find,
they never worry about her,
because they know she's still blind.
i tend to worry about her once in a while,
i wondered if she was ok,
or lying dead on a garbage pile.
then for some time,
to everyone she seemed like she went away.
i slowly forgot about her day by day.
a few months later, her cousin called my phone,
asked me if i heard from her,
she had a quiet tone.
apparently, the runaway was in a trailor,
she was all drugged up so nothing was real,
including the fire that started and she didnt feel.
she died and i wasnt shocked,
gone forever,
but every emotion from me was blocked.
i just knew it,
i knew she'd disappear one day,
if you plan to forever spend your life like this,
a 13-year-old runaway.

Kind of lost my attention part way through, but a good write none the less. Really sad subject matter. I actually know a couple people like this, and a lot of what you wrote is true in a lot of cases. It breaks my heart reading things like this.

Very sad but reality bites. This is a very touching write. U did a good thing for writing this as your voice helps others understand. It's so heart breaking that her parents didn't care. Still I know it happens too much.
thank u for sharing this and keep up the incrediable writing.
huggs,
emy

This brings back a lot of memories for me that I will not speak about here because they still hit too close to home. What you have here is the shocking truth about real life on the streets. Great write
