But Eric the donkey noticed this,
And asked Colin to play soccer,
Which was a friendly thing to do,
So out of the corner came Colin.

Eric suggested Colin play in goal,
And Jack the llama said he agreed,
All in all a great tactical move,
As they lined up against the Rangers.

It was all quite close for most part,
Chances few and far between,
And at half time there was no score,
All rather tense really you know.

The second half started very badly,
When Graham the tiger got sent off,
Didn’t just foul his opposite number,
He ate him whole in one gulp.

Yet against all odds our lads scored,
Long ball Eric, half volley from Jack,
Colin punched the air with joy,
But knew from here things would be hard.

They threw all they had against them,
But our lads in defense stood firm,
Let nothing get by them to shoot,
And played a very cunning offside trap.

With the minutes ticking by on the clock,
The opponents gave it one last go,
And they got through the back four,
Seemed they were certain to score.

Colin gulped, and you would too,
As the forward came bearing down,
One on one against an elephant,
You’d back yourself to score.

The shot when it came was stunning,
It sizzled towards the top corner,
But you’d never believe what happened,
Not in a million years.

Colin, our Colin, kept his eye on the ball,
And he leapt athletically high,
Defying all laws of science and nature,
He managed to tip it away for a corner.

Final whistle, one nil to the lads,
And they all rushed up to Colin with glee,
They said thanks and patted his back,
But they struggled to carry him off shoulder high.
