*~*~*~*~*~*

in pieces…
but whole enough to be held; to be loved

I have kept them safe
locked in the nexus of silent recognition
worn and frayed, they recoil in the sunlight
having habituated to the darkness

pulling them close, the overwhelming euphoria
of reminiscence spills into the air
flooding the expanse and
piercing thought

this is the usual moment when the book is closed
the box covered
the envelope sealed ….

But today … maybe, just maybe,
these pieces can be willed to remain

and never, never again
to be obscured by the mysterious natural progression
that emphatically refuses to halt
